The 2024 United Kingdom general election will be held on Thursday, 4 July 2024. It will determine the composition of the House of Commons, which is the lower house of the UK Parliament.

Registered Voters

As of December 2019, there were 47,567,752 registered voters in the UK. All British citizens and citizens of the Commonwealth of Nations who are 18 years of age or older and resident in the UK are eligible to vote in the general election.

Types of Elections

There are five types of elections in the United Kingdom:

• General elections, which are held every five years to elect members of the House of Commons
• Local elections, which are held every four years to elect members of local councils
• Mayoral elections, which are held every four years to elect mayors of cities
• Police and crime commissioner elections, which are held every four years to elect police and crime commissioners
• Referendums, which are held on specific issues to give voters a direct say on government policy
