Birth and Family Background

Keir Starmer was born on September 2, 1962, in Southwark, London. His parents, Josephine and Rodney Starmer, were members of the Labour Party. Starmer was the second of four children.

Childhood and Education

Starmer grew up in Oxted, a small town in Surrey. He attended Reigate Grammar School, a state-funded secondary school. After finishing school, Starmer studied law at the University of Leeds and the University of Law. He qualified as a barrister in 1987.
